Portugal drops to 23rd place in FIFA women's rankings

Portugal dropped to 23rd place in the FIFA women's rankings after exiting the European Championship with just one draw and two defeats in the competition's three group stage matches.
In the rankings released this Thursday by the body that oversees world football, the Portuguese women's team was overtaken by Finland (22nd), which rose four places after finishing the European Championship in Switzerland with one win, one draw and one defeat.
The ranking was now led by world champions Spain, who overtook the United States, and despite ' La Roja' having been beaten in the European final by England (1-1, 3-1 on penalties).
The English, who retained their European title, the third won by coach Sarina Wiegmann, two with the 'lionesses' and one with the Netherlands, rose from fifth to fourth place in the hierarchy of women's football worldwide.
The podium is made up of Spain, the United States and Sweden (up three), followed by England, Germany (down two), France (up four), Brazil (down three), despite winning the Copa América, Japan (down one), Canada (down one) and South Korea (down one).
The next FIFA women's rankings will be released on December 11th.
