" A proposal to change the regulations on access, movement and stay is currently being analyzed, drawn up by a working group" made up of members of the PSP and GNR, said Anabela Cabral Ferreira, in a note sent to the Lusa news agency, specifying that this proposal will be presented to the board of directors and discussed at a leaders' conference.

According to the statement, the current AR regulations are discussed at a leaders' conference and are "updated whenever a level of threat or weakness is identified that justifies it".

The note, which the Secretary General of the AR justifies with published news about security and circulation rules in the Assembly of the Republic, highlights that the Parliament building has "a different nature from any other sovereign body, being visited daily by a large number of students and citizens who want to get to know the functioning of the institution up close", in addition to receiving visits from guests of the parliamentary groups, who in this case are responsible for their entry and circulation in the palace.

"The Assembly of the Republic has regulations governing access, movement and stay in its facilities, which establish a security service responsible for the prevention, control, surveillance, protection and defence of the institution in terms of its facilities and the people who perform their duties there. This service, headed by a security officer, relies on the participation and commitment of the GNR, the PSP and parliamentary assistants", explains the secretary-general of the AR.

The news that Parliament is considering changes to the rules on access, movement and permanence was reported by Rádio Renascença and Expresso, after six members who allegedly belonged to a violent far-right movement were arrested by the PJ on Tuesday.

The six detainees, including a PSP chief on secondment to the Lisbon Municipal Police, belonged to the so-called Movimento Armilar Lusitano (MAL) and, according to some media outlets, were planning to invade the AR and were discussing the possibility of occupying the official residence of the President of the Republic.

Of the six people arrested for terrorist activities and incitement to hatred, four were held in preventive detention on Wednesday and the other two were subject to the coercive measure of periodic presentations.

Four of the six neo-Nazis from the Lusitanian Armillary Movement detained by the PJ on Tuesday were held in preventive detention, the most serious coercive measure. The head of the PSP who is among those detained is also one of those targeted by this coercive measure.

As part of the operation, the PJ seized various types of explosive material, several firearms, some of which were produced using 3D printing, several 3D printers, several dozen rounds of ammunition, several bladed weapons and computer equipment, among other evidence.

"The investigation resulted from the detection online of indicators of extremist demonstrations by apologists of nationalist ideologies and radical and violent far-right movements, followers of an anti-system and conspiratorial ideology, which encouraged discrimination, hatred and violence against immigrants and refugees", said the PJ.

According to the PJ, the Lusitanian Armillary Movement intended to establish itself as a political movement supported by an armed militia.
