Gouveia and Melo on a downward path and in a technical tie with Mendes and Seguro

Gouveia e Melo, the presidential candidate who was a prominent figure in the Portuguese public's favor before launching his candidacy, has been falling in the polls and is now tied with his two main rivals, Marques Mendes and António José Seguro.
According to the most recent Intercampus poll for Correio da Manhã, CMTV and Jornal de Negócios, he fell 6.7 percentage points compared to June, now reaching 20.6% of voting intentions, his lowest performance since he launched the race for Belém.
The retired admiral sees his main rivals closing in, even being in a technical tie with Marques Mendes, who in this study appears with 17.2% of voting intentions, and António José Seguro, the preferred candidate with 16.5%.
In the race to succeed Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa are, in addition to these three candidates, António Filipe, André Pestana, Joana Amaral Dias, Tim Vieira and Vitorino Silva.
MEP João Cotrim Figueiredo, former president of the IL, admitted last weekend the possibility of also running. And this Tuesday, news broke that Rui Moreira, the outgoing mayor of Porto, is being encouraged to enter the presidential race.
