Évora Court sentences former Cabrita driver to 14 months in prison with suspended sentence

The former driver of the former Minister of Internal Administration Eduardo Cabrita was today sentenced by the Évora Court to 14 months in prison with a suspended sentence for running over a worker on Motorway 6 (A6).
When reading the sentence, Judge Vanda Simões, who tried the case, stated that the court considered that “both parties contributed to the accident”, attributing half of the blame to the former driver and the other half to the worker.
The judge found that the defendant had behaved negligently due to the speed at which he was driving the vehicle, noting that the deceased should not have been in that location on the A6 and that the signage for the work was deficient.
The accident dates back to June 18, 2021, when the official vehicle in which Eduardo Cabrita was traveling, driven by Marco Pontes, fatally ran over Nuno Santos, 43 years old, a worker at a company that carried out maintenance on the A6, at kilometer 77.6 of the road, in the direction of Estremoz-Évora.
On December 3, 2021, the Public Prosecutor's Office accused Marco Pontes of negligent homicide, and on the same day, the then Minister of Internal Administration resigned from his post.
