Police arrest man who tried to kill neighbor with a cement block

A 60-year-old man was arrested by the Judicial Police (PJ) in Miranda do Corvo, Coimbra district, for the alleged practice of attempted qualified homicide and will appear in court this Thursday afternoon.
A source from the PJ Center's Directorate told Lusa news agency that the arrest took place on Tuesday, after the detainee hit a neighbor who lived on the lower floor of the property with a cement block weighing around 16 kilograms.
The same source explained that this situation occurred in a context of verbal conflict and threats to physical integrity, “which had never gone beyond that”.
“In the middle of the afternoon on Tuesday, the defendant planned to kill his neighbor and placed himself on a balcony, about four meters high, waiting for the neighbor to leave the house so he could throw the cement block,” he explained.
The 55-year-old victim was hit in the head and knocked unconscious. When his wife arrived home, she called emergency services.
According to the PJ Center Management, the victim is hospitalized and is out of danger.
The detainee will appear this afternoon for judicial questioning to learn about the coercive measures.
