Francisco Cuoco died this Thursday (19), at the age of 91, in São Paulo. The actor had been hospitalized for about 20 days at the Albert Einstein Hospital, where he was receiving care for health complications related to age and an infection resulting from an injury. According to information released by the family, the cause of death was multiple organ failure.

With a career spanning more than six decades, Cuoco has become one of the greatest names in Brazilian drama, especially for his roles in soap operas. He was responsible for bringing to life memorable characters and starred in hits such as Selva de Pedra, Pecado Capital and O Astro, all written by Janete Clair. His first role on TV Globo was in 1970, playing Father Vítor in the soap opera Assim na Terra Como no Céu.

Born on November 29, 1933, in São Paulo, Cuoco was the son of Italian salesman Leopoldo Cuoco and housewife Antonieta. He grew up in the traditional neighborhood of Brás and from an early age showed an interest in the arts, becoming enchanted by the circus that was set up in front of his house.

In fact, even after gaining notoriety, the actor remained constantly concerned with his craft. In an interview with the Memória Globo project, he highlighted: "It is important that the characters have their own lives... I prefer the character to suffocate Francisco."

Among his latest works on television are participations in the soap operas Sol Nascente (2016), Segundo Sol (2018) and Salve-se Quem Puder (2020). He also acted in comedy programs and end-of-year specials.

Francisco Cuoco leaves behind three children — Tatiana, Rodrigo and Diogo — as well as grandchildren. The wake will be open to the public this Friday (20), at the Funeral Home, in São Paulo. The burial will be restricted to family and friends.
