Legionella detected in Lagos nursing home with no record of infections

In a note published on its website, the institution states that to date, "no symptoms associated with Legionnaires' disease have been recorded" among users or employees of the institution.
According to the social solidarity institution, the presence of the Legionella spp. bacteria was detected as part of the Legionnaires' disease health surveillance program by the Local Public Health Unit.
The Misericórdia de Lagos guarantees that the technical services "adopted immediate measures" to eliminate and control the risk recommended by the public health authorities.
At the same time, he adds, every effort is being made to quickly normalize the operations of the Lar de São João Batista.
According to Misericórdia de Lagos, the nursing home "meets all the safety and health conditions" for the institution's users, workers, family members, and visitors.
Legionnaires' disease, caused by the bacterium legionella pneumophila , is contracted by inhaling droplets of contaminated water vapor (aerosols) so small that they carry the bacteria to the lungs, depositing it in the pulmonary alveoli.
