Gynecological cancer: why misinformation about HPV is still so widespread in Brazil

A groundbreaking survey reveals alarming data about women's health in Brazil: 57% of Brazilian women are unaware that HPV is the main cause of cervical cancer, a disease that kills approximately 19 women per day in the country. The survey, conducted by Grupo EVA in partnership with Instituto Locomotiva, surveyed 831 women and raises awareness about misinformation at the very beginning of the September in Bloom campaign, dedicated to the eradication of gynecological tumors.

These worrying data will be the backdrop for the 8th Annual Symposium of EVA – the Brazilian Group of Gynecological Tumors , the leading event in the specialty in Latin America, which will take place in São Paulo from September 11th to 13th. The meeting will bring together some of the biggest names in gynecological oncology worldwide to discuss advances in treatment and, most importantly, the challenges posed by misinformation.

"The research demonstrated the need for access to scientific information from reliable sources so that people understand the importance of vaccination and regular checkups," says Dr. Andréa Paiva Gadelha Guimarães, president of the EVA Group.

Global meeting for women's health

Established as a hub for scientific exchange, the symposium will feature experts from centers of excellence in the United States, Canada, Europe, and Asia. One of the highlights is the presence of the GCIG (Gynecologic Cancer InterGroup) , an international research consortium that reinforces Brazil's commitment to cutting-edge knowledge in this field.

In addition to scientific sessions for physicians and researchers, the event will have a special focus on patient care. A workshop entitled "Care Transforms" will humanize the role of caregivers, friends, and family members in the cancer patient's journey.

During the symposium, the second edition of the EVA Manual will also be launched, a publication with accessible language to guide health professionals at all stages of treatment, and workshops will be held to train young physician-scientists.
