Cases of respiratory viruses and Influenza A are falling in Brazil

The new weekly InfoGripe bulletin from the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), released this Thursday (31), shows that the number of cases of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and Influenza A is falling in most states in the country.

However, the bulletin also shows an increase in the number of cases of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) in young children associated with respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) in the states of Amazonas, Roraima, and Rio Grande do Norte, as well as a resumption of growth in Rio Grande do Sul. Nationally, cases associated with RSV and influenza A continue to decline in most of the country.
The Fiocruz bulletin shows that nationally, SARS cases show signs of declining short- and long-term trends. This scenario reflects the decline in hospitalizations due to influenza A and RSV in most of the country. Regarding COVID-19, severe cases remain low.
Despite this, in Ceará the scenario is different, as there has been an increase in the number of SARS cases.
InfoGRipe researcher Tatiana Portella assesses that, even with the downward trend, there has still been a high number of SARS cases in children and the elderly in recent weeks.
"Therefore, it is important that everyone is up to date with their COVID-19 and influenza vaccinations , as this is the main way to prevent serious cases," he recommends.
CapitalsIn this update, only 2 of the 27 capitals have had a SARS alert, risk or high risk level in the last two weeks: Campo Grande (MS) and Vitoria (ES) .
In the last four epidemiological weeks, the prevalence among positive cases was 17.4% of influenza A, 1.5% of influenza B, 47.7% of respiratory syncytial virus, 31% of rhinovirus, and 4% of SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19). Among deaths, the presence of these same viruses was 57.6% of influenza A, 2.6% of influenza B, 17.7% of respiratory syncytial virus, 15.3% of rhinovirus, and 6.4% of SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19).
