Tarcísio discusses US tariff hike with Georgia governor and mentions 'diplomacy'

Amid the crisis between Brazil and the United States and the imposition of 50% tariffs by US President Donald Trump on Brazilian products, São Paulo Governor Tarcísio de Freitas received Georgia Governor Brian Kemp and First Lady Marty Kemp in the city. Officially, the meeting was held to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the trade partnership between the two regions. In practice, the tariff hike imposed by Trump was under discussion, according to Estadão .
On social media, Tarcísio highlighted the presence of 37 Georgian companies in Brazil, while 40 Brazilian companies are there, generating 12,000 jobs in that American state.
"We had the opportunity to discuss the current state of relations between Brazil and the United States and highlight the importance of diplomacy and international dialogue. This exchange is essential to strengthening bonds of friendship and cooperation, expanding partnerships that bring concrete results for São Paulo and Brazil," Tarcísio said on his Instagram.
Last week, Tarcísio de Freitas stated that the tariff hike issue will be resolved in the medium and long term. He noted that "there may be an escalation in the short term" and emphasized the importance of establishing a channel of dialogue and insisting on resolving the conflict.
"Obviously, we have to push the envelope now to talk, to negotiate. I don't think it's humiliating for anyone, for any head of state," he said, referring to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's comment on the 6th, when the Workers' Party member said he wouldn't humiliate himself to speak with the American president about the tariff hike on products exported by Brazil to the United States.
