Support of over €3.7 million for farmers affected by the summer fires

More than six thousand farmers from municipalities affected by the fires of July and August have submitted applications for support, which already exceeds 3.7 million euros paid or in process, a government source told Lusa today.
In a written response sent to Lusa, the source from the Ministry of Economy and Territorial Cohesion stated that, to date, 6,126 applications have been submitted by farmers from 56 municipalities in the district of Bragança, Viana do Castelo, Vila Real, Porto, Viseu, Guarda, Coimbra, Castelo Branco, Portalegre, Setúbal and Beja.
According to the Ministry, the value of the support paid or in progress, after a joint inspection by municipal technicians and the Regional Coordination and Development Commissions (CCDR), exceeds 3.7 million euros.
"The number of applications for extraordinary support from farmers affected by the fires is being constantly updated as they are submitted," the same source noted, adding that the first payments began to be made in September.
Regarding the amounts, the Government explains that they are being processed "as on-site inspections are carried out."
In August, Prime Minister Luís Montenegro announced that he would move forward with support for farmers, including undocumented expenses, in the amount of up to 10,000 euros.
Luís Montenegro explained that it would be “an agile process”, where, through the intervention of the municipal councils and the CCDR (Regional Coordination and Development Commissions), losses would be identified and funds allocated.
