PSI closes session in the 'green', driven by REN

The Lisbon stock exchange closed the day in positive territory, with an advance of 0.02% to 7,695.57 points.
Leading the day was REN, rising 1.94% to €3.160, followed by Sonae, which gained 1.75% to €1.2800. NOS added 1.33% to €3.82, Mota-Engil increased 0.47% to €4.258, and BCP advanced 0.39% to €0.6632.
In contrast, Jerónimo Martins lost 0.98% to 22.28 euros, Galp fell 0.94% to 15.88 euros, EDP Renováveis slipped 0.69% to 10.08 euros, EDP slid 0.47% to 3.800 euros and Altri fell 0.20% to 4.890 euros.
The main European markets followed Portugal's gains, with the CAC40 rising 1.29% to 7,822.00 points and the IBEX35 increasing 0.66% to 13,999.56 points.
Millennium Investment Banking market analyst Ramiro Loureiro states that " European stock markets closed with investors encouraged by the robustness of the US economy, driven by good retail sales data and a decline in unemployment benefit claims. The data ultimately supported the dollar's appreciation against the euro, which had already been evident earlier in the morning following news that Trump had denied his intention to fire the Fed chairman."
"The environment favored more cyclical sectors, such as technology, which was further boosted by the strong increase in quarterly profits reported by TSMC. In Portugal, the PSI followed the green abroad, albeit with a very slight gain, as the gains of over 1% in REN, Sonae, and NOS were overshadowed by corrections in J.Martins, Galp, and the EDP group," he notes.
In the oil market, Texas-based WTI rose 1.11%, setting the price per barrel at $67.10, and Brent gained 0.70% to $68.97. Natural gas rose 0.59% to $3.572.
In the foreign exchange market, the euro depreciated 0.36% against the dollar, settling at 1.1599 dollars.
