Musical square in Complexo do Alemão aims to promote peripheral culture

The Rio de Janeiro Municipal Housing Department will build the first music square in Complexo do Alemão. The Praça Paisagem Sonora project, part of the Morar Carioca Program, aims to promote peripheral culture in Morro do Adeus, where the music area will be installed.
The building will be shaped like a hang glider, with three environments, called islands: Harmonic and Melodic, Sensory, and Rhythmic. The sound path will feature spatial guidance through tactile flooring, Braille materials, access ramps, and a safety railing, among other accessibility and sustainability features.
The musical square will serve Alemão residents by encouraging community interaction with music and expanding knowledge. According to the project, the aim is to strengthen "territorial identity," value "sonic references," and promote "sensitive urban planning" through art, education, and infrastructure.
The Soundscape Square, which features an inclusive design, also promises to offer a range of instruments, such as: a sound hopscotch, with accessible paintwork for people with low vision and an access ramp; a log drum; a snake wireless phone shaped like a snake; a sensory circuit; and wind pipes, wind instruments that transmit sound through the wind.
Construction work has begun and is expected to be completed in four months.
