Marcos do Val defies Supreme Court measures and shows electronic ankle bracelet live

Senator Marcos do Val (Podemos-ES) disobeyed the precautionary measures imposed on him by the Federal Supreme Court (STF) and went live on his YouTube channel this Friday, 22nd. In the video, the parliamentarian denies the accusations of leaking documents from the Brazilian Intelligence Agency (Abin), says he did not leave the country illegally and shows the electronic ankle bracelet he is wearing.
"A senator with an electronic ankle bracelet without any crime," he said, raising his foot and showing the device. "Senators, this is a slap in the face," the parliamentarian added.
During the video, Do Val reads the cases in which the use of an electronic ankle bracelet is permitted. He states that the device is intended for, among other crimes, those involved in drug trafficking, theft, rape, and assault on women, which would not be his case. The senator also argues that he has never been convicted, and therefore cannot wear the device.
In June 2023, Do Val was the target of a Federal Police operation for disclosing confidential Abin documents. During the investigation, he was prevented from leaving the country. However, in July, he traveled to the US using his diplomatic passport, bypassing the Supreme Federal Court (STF). Upon landing in Brazil in August, the senator was subjected to precautionary measures by the Federal Police, including the use of an electronic ankle bracelet.
"I went to the United States because I'm a free citizen and a sitting senator. I didn't commit a crime, and I wasn't denounced. So what? Do I follow the Constitution or do I follow Alexandre (de Moraes)? " asks do Val in the video. Do Val also says his passport was confiscated, but that there was no order preventing him from leaving the country.
The senator also claims that, while abroad, he and his daughter had their CPFs and bank accounts frozen by Alexandre de Moraes. After the incident, he stated that he contacted Marco Rubio – the US Secretary of State – and informed him of the sanctions he was facing.
"I contacted Marco Rubio directly and told him what had just happened (his Pix blocking). Until then, Alexandre had only lost his visa and could not enter the United States. Marco Rubio's team contacted me on the phone, outraged—I can show you later how angry they were at the time—and said, 'Senator, he will be penalized tomorrow.' The next day, I woke up to find him under the Magnitsky Act," says Do Val. He adds, "You (Moraes) don't know who you've messed with," and says the minister's downfall is imminent.
Senate President Davi Alcolumbre (União-AP) stated on August 13 that the House was analyzing how to appeal to the Supreme Federal Court on the senator's behalf. One possibility was for the Senate, in exchange for a relaxation of precautionary measures against Do Val, to suspend the senator from office for six months.
