Increase in ethanol blend in gasoline comes into effect this Friday

The increase in the ethanol blend in gasoline and biodiesel goes into effect this Friday, the 1st. In gasoline, the proportion increases from 27% to 30%. In the case of biodiesel, the composition now contains 15% ethanol (previously 14%).
When the measure was made official in June, the National Energy Policy Council indicated that the objective was to help Brazil face possible increases in oil prices due to international fluctuations.
According to the government, gasoline prices at gas stations are expected to drop by up to R$ 0.11 per liter. The government did not estimate possible changes in the cost of a liter of biodiesel.
Last October, President Lula (Workers' Party) signed a law paving the way for change: the Fuel of the Future law . The new rule authorized the administration to increase the ethanol blend in gasoline to up to 35%, provided it was technically feasible.
In March of this year, the Ministry of Mines and Energy made progress on the issue, releasing test results that confirmed the technical viability of the 30% blend . The ministry indicated that there will be no significant changes in vehicle performance with the adoption of the new blend. The changes in biodiesel will also have no impact, according to the studies.
The government also believes that the changes will make Brazil self-sufficient in gasoline again after 15 years.

After difficult years , we've returned to a Brazil that feels at least a little bit normal. This new normal, however, remains fraught with uncertainty . The Bolsonaro threat persists, and the appetites of the market and Congress continue to pressure the government. Abroad, the global rise of the far right and the brutality in Gaza and Ukraine risk imploding the fragile foundations of global governance.
