Sabrina Carpenter and Taylor Swift’s Complete Friendship Timeline

Before they became friends, Sabrina Carpenter was a huge fan of Taylor Swift. Through many years of devoted fandom and hard work on her own career, Carpenter managed to not only meet her idol but be hired to go on tour with her. Carpenter made appearances during the Eras Tour as an opener and even ended up singing alongside Swift on stage.

Here’s their history together as friends and fans.

When Carpenter was only nine-years-old, she was filmed singing Swift’s hit song “White Horse.”

She shared her first YouTube video in 2009, which was a cover of Swift’s “Picture to Burn.”

That same month, she tweeted about how she tried to enter a contest to meet Swift but was told she was too young.

She did get to go to Swift’s concert in 2010 and later reshared her original tweet about it when announcing her tour.

Carpenter finally met Swift sometime in 2017, and told Who What Wear that the 1989 singer had her cats with her backstage.

“I have older sisters, so if anything, it felt like that type of a relationship,” she said of the first encounter.

Swift sent Carpenter a Red (Taylor’s Version) package before the album was released.

In an interview with GQ, Carpenter simply said, “I love Taylor Swift.”

The two posed together at the 2022 VMA after-party along with BLACKPINK’s Rosé.

They were photographed together again at the American Music Awards with the musician Gayle.

They were seen hanging out at the 2023 Grammys afterparty.

Carpenter was photographed in Philadelphia in the VIP tent for Swift’s Eras Tour show.

It was announced that Carpenter would be on the South American leg of the Eras Tour.

“Really thrilled to tell you this!! Mexico, Argentina and Brazil: We are bringing The Eras Tour to you this year!” Swift wrote, adding, “Sweet angel princess @SabrinaAnnLynn will be joining us on all of the shows!”

Carpenter also shared how important the milestone was for her, writing, “Trying to process this but alas I shant. CANT WAIT TO JOIN THE ERAS TOUR IN LATIN AMERICA. Thank u @taylorswift13 u the 1 :’) this is the dreamiest dream come true.”

Carpenter shared what her favorite Taylor Swift albums of all time are.

They posed together again at the 2023 VMAs.

Swift brought a big crew to see the Kansas City Chiefs face off against the New York Jets, including Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, and Sophie Turner. Carpenter was also in the VIP booth cheering on Swift’s boyfriend Travis Kelce.

Shortly after, Carpenter shared a cover of Swift’s “I Knew You Were Trouble,” and her friend approved.

Carpenter attended Swift’s 34th birthday party in New York City.

In her interview with Who What Wear, Carpenter talked about joining the Eras Tour, saying, “I’m not gonna say I peed my pants because that sounds really graphic and maybe not sanitary, but I think it really just caught me off guard.”

She added, “It was very much a childhood dream come true. I still probably have not processed it if I’m being completely honest with you.”

Carpenter continued on with the Eras Tour after the Latin America shows, joining the Australian leg. On their off time, the pair went to the Australia Zoo. In Sydney, Swift and Carpenter sang a mashup of “White Horse” and “Coney Island.”

Of the duet, Carpenter said, “I told her this: That was the first song I ever learned on guitar. But also, she knows that my first ever cover on YouTube was her song. I was super little. That was a very full-circle moment.”

After her Eras Tour time ended, Carpenter wrote a loving tribute to Swift.

“And the most thank-you’s I’ve ever thank-you’d to Taylor,” she said. “I feel so lucky to witness the magic that is you and this tour. There is truly no one like you and there never will be! I love you with all my heart and I will cherish this Taybrina era (and all the eras) till the end of time 💞💞💞”

Carpenter posed for Kim Kardashian’s SKIMS line. Carpenter said she talked about it with Swift ahead of time, since they have a difficult history.

“As much as people want to believe you’re tuned into every little thing, I’m not because I’m constantly working,” she told Rolling Stone. “In that scenario, I’ve been very, very communicative with her about that situation, and I just love her so much and support her till the end. So it was no weirdness for me, but I know people will just say things because that’s all they have time to do.”

Carpenter celebrated a pretty hefty list of accomplishments this year, writing in an Instagram post, “And just like that you guys sold out the entire short n’ sweet tour, espresso went #1 at pop radio andddddd i slid down this slide :’) thank you all so so much!!! i can’t wait to see you on the road.”

Swift commented on the post, “SUMMER OF SABRINA AND MAY IT CONTINUE FOREVER,” with an angel emoji.

Carpenter spoke to Variety about how Swift is one of her best friends. The outlet asked her about speculation Carpenter asked Swift for permission before appearing in Kardashian’s SKIMS campaign.

“Well, Taylor is a rock star!” Carpenter started. She then added, “She’s just such a gangster with all of it. No matter what people are saying, everything that I’ve ever seen her tackle, she’s done so with grace. The posts about me having to ‘ask for her permission’—no. She’s one of my best, best friends, and we grab dinner or text and catch up like you would with your best friend.”

Later that month, Swift was a true friend to Carpenter again when she shouted out Carpenter’s new album Short n' Sweet on her Instagram Stories. Swift shared a photo of them together and wrote underneath it, “Short [check mark], Sweet [check mark], Has made an extraordinary album [check mark].”

She linked to the album as well, writing, “Go Support Our Girl!!”

In an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Carpenter shared some more about her friendship with Swift, saying, “She’s very supportive of me and knows who I am as a person, and is very supportive of that.”

On October 18, Swift kicked off the next leg of her Eras Tour in Miami, debuting several new outfits. Carpenter seemingly responded in a now deleted tweet. The tweet contained three letters and an exclamation point and was in a reply to a Taylor Nation post.

While it was likely a mistake tweet, Carpenter is clearly paying attention to Swift’s fan accounts since she’s a fan herself.

On Oct. 26, Carpenter joined Swift in New Orleans, where the Eras Tour star was playing another of her three scheduled concerts in the Louisiana city at Caesars Superdome. The pair sang a duet and then a mashup of songs including Carpenter’s “Espresso” and Swift’s song “Is It Over Now?” from her album 1989.

They also covered Carpenter’s “Please Please Please.” Swift wore a long orange gown and heels as she played the guitar, while Carpenter wore a sparkling white baby doll dress and silver platform Mary Janes.

Carpenter shared videos and photos of the night on Instagram writing in the caption, “only stage i’d ever wanna see on a day off !!!! thank you for working late, thank you for being a singer and thank you for having me🤍 @taylorswift i love you!!”

The friends met again at the Grammys in February 2025, both looking stunning at the big music night. They posed for photos and shared an embrace.

On February 8, Carpenter also shared a carousel of photos from the Grammys after-parties that featured a couple of shots of Swift, in which she’s changed into a sparkling silver minidress and black boots. She wore a black blazer over the new outfit. The friends took some shots with music producer Jack Antonoff.
