Both come from well-known families, as Barker, 21, is the son of Travis Barker and Shanna Moakler, while Sanders, 20, is the daughter of director Rupert Sanders and model Liberty Ross. The pair have been gradually sharing more of their relationship in public, from going Instagram official to making their red carpet debut.

During a TikTok interview in May 2025, Barker and Sanders revealed that they first met through mutual friends in 2024. Barker recalled, “We just met through, like, friends pretty much.” Sanders added that they had met “seven months ago.”

The pair made their red carpet debut at the MTV Video Music Awards on September 7. Coordinating in black looks, Sanders told Entertainment Tonight, “We tried to twin.”

“Well I go to school here, so he’s coming to visit me,” she added. “I’m just happy to have him.”
