Italy wins most prestigious award at Osaka Expo

Italy's participation in Expo 2025 Osaka came to an end last Sunday (12) with a historic feat: the Italian Pavilion was awarded "gold" in the "Thematic Development" category, the most prestigious recognition granted by the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) - an intergovernmental organization that supervises and certifies universal exhibitions.
This is the first time Italy has won this award at an Expo, surpassing all previous achievements at such events. It was presented in the Expo Hall Shining Hat to Ambassador Mario Vattani, Italy's Commissioner General at Expo 2025 Osaka.
"We interpret the Expo's theme in a way that best represents the culture of our great nation, based on the concept that 'art regenerates life,'" the Italian diplomat declared.
Vattani highlighted that the recognition is the result of joint work between regions, companies, the world of culture and the entire national system: "Italy as a whole won at Expo Osaka."
For the ambassador, the award "does not just celebrate a pavilion, but an idea of Italy: a country that believes in the future, that knows how to combine art and technology, tradition and innovation, and that, with the strength of its collective talent, manages to be admired throughout the world."
In Rome, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni enthusiastically commented on the Italian Pavilion's award: "The absolute prize awarded by the BIE jury to our pavilion is a source of great pride."
"This recognition honors the Italian genius and confirms that, when we work together - institutions, companies and territories - we best represent our identity and talent to the world."
Finally, Meloni emphasized that the Pavilion was conceived as "a true Renaissance square, a synthesis of tradition and innovation", where beauty and creativity met and new partnerships and opportunities were generated for the Italian economy.
