Ice cream consumption grows in Italy and prices rise

Faced with the high temperatures of the European summer, ice cream consumption in Italy grew 4% this season compared to the same period last year, and along with it, the price of the treat, with Florence, in Tuscany, boasting the most expensive "gelato" in the Belpaese.
The data comes from the Consumer Training and Research Center (CRC), which analyzed the average price of a kilo of ice cream in all Italian cities in the summer of 2025, which is 5.87 euros (R$ 38.12) compared to the equivalent published by the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy in 2021, when the price was 4.54 euros (R$ 29.48). Conclusion: the price of the product in the land of "gelato" has risen 30% in the last four years.
Touristy Florence, capital of the Renaissance, has the most expensive ice cream in the country, averaging 8.05 euros per kilo (R$52.24), followed by Forlì, in Emilia-Romagna (7.68 euros / R$49.84); Bolzano, in Trentino-Alto Adige (7.19 euros / R$46.66); Ravenna, also in Emilia-Romagna (7.18 euros / R$46.59) and Biella, in Piedmont (7.14 euros / R$46.33).
On the other hand, the cheapest ice cream in Italy this summer is in Macerata, in the Marche region, with an average price of 4.55 euros per kilo (R$29.53). Next are Treviso, in Veneto (4.56 euros / R$29.59), and Cuneo, in Piedmont (4.64 euros / R$30.11).
"After the sharp price hike seen in recent years, due to rising energy prices and the war in Ukraine, the trend in gelato price lists has stabilized, but the crisis in some raw materials, starting with cocoa, still weighs heavily," explains Furio Truzzi, president of the CRC's scientific committee.
