Dino D'Santiago will perform in July at the Canals Festival in Aveiro

The Festival dos Canais returns to Aveiro from 16 to 20 July, with a concert by Dino D'Santiago and shows by Rui Queiroz de Matos and the Dutch company Panama Pictures, the organisation revealed today.
Organized by Aveiro City Council, the event, which celebrates its tenth edition this year, includes music, theater, dance, a new circus, artistic installations, activities for children and other proposals that promise to transform the city's daily life.
One of the highlights of this edition, according to a note from the council, are the shows about water, including “The Weight of Water”, by the company Panama Pictures, from the Netherlands, a “parable about global warming with six performers and a floating platform” to be seen on the Central Canal, next to the locks, on the 19th and 20th of July.
In music, the first name revealed is Dino D'Santiago. The singer who has worked with Cape Verdean tradition and the contemporary brand of global electronics will perform at the start of the event, on July 16, on the biggest stage of the Festival dos Canais, set up at Cais da Fonte Nova.
In terms of premieres, the show verde/claro, by Rui Queiroz de Matos, is the first example, and is also a commission from the Festival dos Canais that can be seen every day of the event, with four daily performances.
“This is a puppet creation that celebrates nature on its most intimate scale and asks viewers what life would be like if human beings were just a few millimeters tall,” says the organization.
As in previous years, the event will feature community participation in some of its activities, such as the Fanfarra dos Canais, a traveling musical group that every year has members recruited through an 'open call', with registrations opening soon.
The program also includes several shows and activities for children and families, which will take place in the Jardim das Brincadeiras space, in Baixa de Santo António.
Following the example of recent years, the Festival dos Canais will feature a 'pop-up' by Chefs On Fire, a gastronomic event that invites renowned chefs to cook over a slow fire, celebrating the origins of cuisine.
The full program of the Canals Festival will be presented soon and will also be available on the event's website.
