Will it snow more in the South? See what the weather will be like in the coming days.

A polar air mass once again "painted white" the dawn of Saturday (9) in the Southern Region of Brazil. In Rio Grande do Sul, snowflakes fell over São José dos Ausentes and Cambará do Sul, in Campos de Cima da Serra, where the altitude exceeds a thousand meters. In São José dos Ausentes, thermometers marked 0.4 °C in the early hours of the day, while Cambará do Sul woke up with a minimum of 2.1 °C.

In Santa Catarina, snow was recorded in at least three mountainous municipalities: São Joaquim, Bom Jardim da Serra, and Urupema. According to data from the Santa Catarina Agricultural Research and Rural Extension Company (Epagri), Urupema had a low of -2°C at 6 a.m., and São Joaquim varied between 0°C and -1°C around 5 a.m.

According to MetSul Meteorologia, the snow is caused by the interaction between the circulation of moisture from a low-pressure area in the Atlantic Ocean, east of southern Brazil, and a mass of polar air with a continental trajectory that advances through the interior of the continent.

Forecast for the next few days

Rio Grande do Sul faces a weekend of intense cold, with minimum temperatures reaching -2 °C this Saturday (9), forecast of frost in the West, in addition to the possibility of winter precipitation in Serra Gaúcha. Maximum temperatures should not exceed 15 °C.

On Sunday (10), the cold continues, with minimum temperatures between -1 °C and 11 °C and widespread frosts in practically the entire state, except in the East and the mountains, and maximum temperatures ranging from 10 °C to 16 °C.

The trend for the beginning of next week is that cold weather will predominate. On Monday (11), minimum temperatures could reach -3 °C in some regions, with widespread frost, and maximum temperatures of up to 18 °C.

From Wednesday (13), the weather will be milder, with temperatures ranging between 2 °C and 25 °C.

The city of São Paulo is expected to experience rain and low temperatures this Saturday. A chilly Father's Day is expected on Sunday, with temperatures likely to drop to 8°C.

According to the company Meteoblue, temperatures are expected to remain low in the capital of São Paulo at least until next Tuesday (12).
