Chega revealed, this Wednesday, that André Ventura will announce his candidacy for the presidential elections, next Friday, through social media.

In a letter sent to the party's deputies, Ventura mentioned “several” reasons for taking this decision, but they are “essentially related to the need” for a “candidacy that represents the space of the anti-corruption and anti-emigration right without confusion with politicians who have defended the opposite all their lives”.
According to the Chega leader, this is a candidacy “with risks”, but it aims to “prevent some” candidates from having Chega’s support, “disdaining” the party “or making it clear that they don’t like the Chega brand”. The party president says he does not accept “giving votes” to those who “don’t want, don’t deserve or reject” Chega’s support.
