University of Algarve takes anime video about Ria Formosa to Expo Osaka 2025

In a statement, UAlg states that the video, which is inspired by Japanese visual aesthetics, “crosses science, art and intercultural dialogue”, being a “singular contribution” and “a bold and innovative proposal”.
The animation uses “traditional elements of the Japanese imagination, such as panel composition, decorative patterns or cinematic landscapes, referring directly to anime and manga ”, he describes.
According to the university, this graphic universe serves as a starting point to showcase the Ria Formosa Natural Park and UAlg's research projects, in an approach that combines scientific production with a universal visual language.
With this participation in Expo Osaka 2025 , which runs until October in that Japanese city, UAlg intends to reinforce its commitment to internationalization and the projection of the institution beyond borders.
The video was produced by the Fly Moustache studio, a company born at UAlg Tec Campus – UAlg's business accelerator.
«This creative approach also reflects UAlg's training commitment, which includes a degree in Animated Images in its portfolio, reinforcing the link between teaching, research and the creative industry», he adds.
«By combining innovation, storytelling and Japanese visual culture, the University of Algarve proposes a new way of communicating science, bringing together laboratories, companies, industry and other audiences, celebrating the encounter between cultures», reads the statement.
UAlg also highlights that it is establishing itself as “an institution that combines innovation, creativity and knowledge in building the society of the future”.
Portugal is one of the 160 countries participating in the Expo 2025 world exhibition, from April 13 to October 13, under the theme “Designing the societies of the future for our lives” and which will take place on Yumeshima Island, an artificial island in Osaka Bay, Japan, and is expected to attract around 28 million visitors.
At Expo 2025, Portugal’s theme is “Ocean: Blue Dialogue” and aims to stand out as a global leader in ocean protection. The permanent exhibition at the national pavilion will focus on the theme “A country with a past, present and future built with the ocean”.
The Ria Formosa is a marshland located in the Algarve region that extends across the municipalities of Loulé, Faro, Olhão, Tavira and Vila Real de Santo António, covering an area of around 18,400 hectares along 60 kilometres, from Ancão beach to Manta Rota beach.
The Algarve academy will be represented by a delegation made up of members of the Communications Office, CRIA – Division of Entrepreneurship and Technology Transfer, representatives of companies and collaborative laboratories.
This participation is part of an operation led by NERA-Business Association of the Algarve Region, financed by European Funds, within the scope of the SIAC measure of the ALGARVE 2030 Regional Program, under the Internacionalizar+Algarve 3.0 Project – Promotion of the International Recognition of the Algarve Region.
