Superior Court of Justice begins reviewing appeal on Robinho's sentence this Wednesday

Superior Court of Justice begins reviewing appeal on Robinho's sentence this Wednesday

The STJ (Superior Court of Justice) should begin on Wednesday (20) to analyze an appeal from the defense of former player Robson de Souza, known as Robinho, who is asking for the sentence to be recalculated.

Robinho was sentenced in Italy to nine years in prison for his role in the gang rape of a 23-year-old woman in an Italian nightclub in 2013. At the time, the player was playing for Milan.

In the appeal , the lawyers argue that, according to Brazilian law, the punishment should be lesser, requesting that the sentence be adjusted in accordance with Brazilian law and not Italian law.

The former player has been in prison since March 2024, after the Supreme Federal Court (STF) authorized his sentence to be served in Brazil. He is being held at the Tremembé Penitentiary, known as the "celebrity prison."

Appeal to the Supreme Court

At the Supreme Court, ministers are expected to begin analyzing another appeal on Friday (22). This time, against the decision that upheld the former player's arrest. The case will be resumed in the virtual plenary.

The rapporteur, Justice Luiz Fux, voted to reject the request, joined by Alexandre de Moraes. Meanwhile, Gilmar Mendes requested a review, suspending the judgment.
