Pinhel Philharmonic Band celebrates anniversary with open-air concert

The Pinhel Philharmonic Band will celebrate its 170th anniversary this Saturday, July 19, with a commemorative concert featuring the Riomoinhense Philharmonic Society of Education and Charity.
The initiative is scheduled for Jardim 5 de Outubro (in front of Cineteatro São Luís), starting at 9:30 pm.
Based on in-depth research carried out by Ana Pinto, a member of the Band for over 20 years and author of the book “Banda Filarmónica de Pinhel – Memórias e Pausas Entre Partituras” (2024), it was concluded that the origins of the collective are much older than what was thought and said, which is why it is important to restore the truth and assume, from now on, that the Banda Filarmónica de Pinhel is at least 170 years old, since the oldest records date back to 1855.
On this anniversary, which is considered particularly special and which continues to be celebrated in mid-July, the Pinhel Philharmonic Band invited the Riomoinhense Philharmonic Society of Education and Charity, from the parish of Rio de Moinhos, municipality of Abrantes, to share this festive moment, in a celebration of friendship between bands and of Portuguese musical heritage.
The meeting will begin at 4:30 pm, with a reception for the invited band at Pinhel Secondary School, followed by a parade through the streets of Pinhel, up to the City Hall building.
At 9:30 pm, the commemorative concert will take place at Jardim 5 de Outubro, where the bands will perform in turn: first the guest and then the host who will perform essentially Portuguese music, in homage to our culture and the composers who immortalized the soul of the Portuguese people in sounds.
The Pinhel Philharmonic Band invites the community to join this unique celebration, which will certainly be a memorable milestone in the history of this group as it approaches its bicentennial.
