Offshore wind power positions Figueira in the blue economy

Inovsea Offshore, from the Commercial and Industrial Association of Figueira da Foz (ACIFF), is one of the 14 best projects selected by COMPETE 2030 to boost the energy transition and the growth of the blue economy in Portugal. The project, announced yesterday in a statement by ACIFF, will be developed in partnership with AEVDC – Viana do Castelo Business Association and «assumes unprecedented national relevance, standing out due to the fact that Figueira da Foz has the largest area for the installation of offshore wind farms in the country».
«The installation of offshore wind power off the coast of Figueira da Foz represents a structural transformation in the local and national economy. Inovsea Offshore will prepare the business community to take advantage of opportunities, mitigate challenges and ensure that this major investment generates qualified employment and technological innovation», says Vitória Abreu, president of ACIFF, quoted in a press release.
Investment of 500 thousand euros in the project
With a total investment of around half a million euros, the project envisages the preparation of a strategic study on the opportunities generated by these investments and initiatives to stimulate entrepreneurship and innovation in the sector. It is expected that hundreds of SMEs will benefit directly, positioning themselves as service and technology providers for offshore wind farms.
According to ACIFF, Inovsea Offshore represents an “important milestone in the affirmation of Figueira da Foz as a strategic hub for offshore renewable energy and places the region at the centre of attention for the energy transition in Portugal”. With this initiative, it also states, “the city strengthens its competitiveness and assumes a central role in the sustainable future of the country”.
This approval reinforces the region’s strategic position in the context of the ocean economy and renewable energy, enabling local companies to integrate into the offshore wind farm value chain. The initiative comes at a crucial time, as Portugal discusses the impact and opportunities of developing offshore wind energy, a sector seen as essential for meeting decarbonization targets and reducing energy dependence.
