Montemor-o-Velho: Farmer income increased by 14.7% in 2024

Montemor-o-Velho: Farmer income increased by 14.7% in 2024

Farmers' income increased by 14.7% in 2024, Minister of Agriculture and the Sea José Manuel Fernandes said yesterday.

The minister participated yesterday in the colloquium “Agriculture in Baixo Mondego: Cooperativism and Future”, promoted by CONFAGRI, which took place at the new Cultural Forum of Montemor-o-Velho.

“In statistical terms, it was 14.7% (…) because it corresponds to the fact that we paid in 2024 what had not been paid in 2023 in terms of support,” said the minister.

José Manuel Fernandes spoke about the government's goals for agriculture and also highlighted the need to change perceptions of agriculture.

"The farmer is not a villain. The farmer is the environment's best friend. The farmer still appears [in school textbooks] as a polluter or with a hoe in hand, as if agriculture today weren't modern and didn't utilize, in addition to artificial intelligence, all the latest robotics," he said.
