Maritime Authority assists man with cervical injury after diving in Cacela Velha bar

Members of the "SeaWatch" Project, from the National Maritime Authority ( AMN ), assisted a 52-year-old man on the afternoon of Thursday, July 31, who allegedly suffered an injury to his neck following a dive in the Cacela Velha bar, an unsupervised area, in the municipality of Vila Real de Santo António.

Following an alert received at 6:41 pm, through the Lisbon Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC Lisboa), informing of the need to provide assistance to a person, elements of the "SeaWatch" Project from Vila Real de Santo António and Tavira were immediately activated to the location.

Upon arrival, members of the Tavira SeaWatch Project located the victim, stabilized him and requested specialized emergency medical assistance.

Support was requested from the nearest dealership to transport the Vila Real de Santo António and Castro Marim Firefighters to the site, and the AMN team swam across the Cacela Velha bar to reinforce the support.

After providing differentiated assistance to the man, members of the "Seawatch" Project supported his evacuation to the ambulance, which subsequently transported him to a hospital.
