Madeira: vaccination coverage varies between 94% and 99%

Vaccination coverage in the Autonomous Region of Madeira varies between 94% and 99%, according to data from the Regional Statistics Directorate (DREM).
"Under the recommended schedule, in 2023, vaccination coverage in the Autonomous Region of Madeira for children aged one year and older ranged from 98.5% (most vaccines) to 99% (Vaccine against invasive Neisseria meningitidis B disease – second inoculations). In this age group, coverage for the vaccine against Streptococcus pneumoniae infections of 13 serotypes increased by 1.5 percentage points (pp) compared to 2022, and for the vaccine against invasive Neisseria meningitidis B disease – second inoculations increased by 1.3 pp. For the remaining vaccines, vaccination coverage was very similar to that of the previous year, with an increase of 0.1 pp across all," the Regional Directorate states.
Vaccination coverage for children two years of age fell across all vaccines, ranging from 94.2% to 98.4% in 2023. The fourth inoculations of vaccines against invasive Haemophilus influenzae disease, diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis/perpussis, and polio were below the 95% vaccination coverage target, with coverage of 94.2% (95.9% in 2022). The vaccine against Streptococcus pneumoniae infections of 13 serotypes had 96.4% coverage (97.5% in 2022), the vaccine against invasive Neisseria meningitidis B disease (third inoculations) had coverage of 96.7% (97.9% in 2022), and the vaccine against invasive Neisseria meningitidis B disease Neisseria meningitidis C (single dose) recorded 97.9% coverage (98.5% in 2022). For the remaining vaccines, the coverage rate decreased by 0.4 percentage points compared to 2022, reaching 98.4%,” according to DREM data.
For children aged six and older, there was also a decline in coverage for all types of vaccines administered in 2023 compared to the previous year. "The decrease in fifth inoculations of the diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis vaccines was 0.4 percentage points, covering 94.4% of individuals in 2023. Second inoculations of the measles, mumps, and rubella vaccines decreased by 0.9 percentage points, reaching 94.8% in 2023. The coverage rate for the injectable inactivated polio vaccine (fifth inoculations) was 94.4%," says the Regional Directorate.
"Vaccination coverage for children aged 11 and older is also released for 2020. In this cohort (who share the same age), compared to 2019, vaccination coverage increased by 1.3 percentage points for the first vaccinations of the Human Papillomavirus vaccine, reaching 96.3%. Human Papillomavirus vaccine coverage (second vaccinations) was 87.1%, a decrease of 0.6 percentage points compared to coverage in 2019," DREM emphasizes.
