Larvae present in Juliana Marins' body helped experts in their report in Rio de Janeiro

The new autopsy of the body of Juliana Marins , 26 years old, carried out at the Legal Medical Institute (IML), was based on entomological examinations , the study of larvae present in the victim's body.
According to coroner Reginaldo Franklin Pereira of the Rio Civil Police, the team identified larvae on Juliana's scalp and chest. The identification of these larvae was considered one of the key findings of the Brazilian investigation, as it allowed them to estimate the time of death.
Brazilian experts stated that Juliana may have survived for up to 32 hours after the first fall. The larvae were taken to a specialized laboratory, where experts analyzed their developmental stage. Based on this study, it was possible to calculate the interval between the fall and the young woman's death, arriving at a figure of up to 32 hours of survival.
"We identified the species of larva, the time of egg laying, and with that, we were able to estimate the time of death as being around noon on the 22nd, Indonesian time," said coroner Reginaldo Franklin Pereira, from the Rio Civil Police.
Painful deathAccording to expert Nelson Massini, the young woman suffered an extremely painful death, with multiple internal injuries and hemorrhaging. "It was a process of suffering, with enormous respiratory difficulty. The lung alveoli were filled with blood. You enter respiratory agony, and then death occurs," he stated.
According to Juliana's sister, the young woman was heard calling for help for at least 14 hours after falling while hiking Mount Rinjani. The cause of death was determined to be multiple trauma, with extensive injuries caused by the impact.
The family says Spanish hikers passing by at 8:54 a.m. Indonesian time heard a call for help. The hikers searched for the Brazilian woman's social media profile, found the family, and shared the location and an aerial image of the site.
According to experts, the final fall caused fatal injuries, and Juliana survived for a maximum of 15 minutes after that stage. Massini also said that reports obtained in Indonesia and laboratory tests indicate that Juliana endured a prolonged death process.
