Jet tax could lead to price hikes

A tax on private jets and premium tickets could lead to a price increase and a loss of competitiveness in the sector if Portugal decides to go ahead with the measure, warns Valair's commercial director, Nuno Gomes, to Jornal Económico.
“All types of taxes are then automatically passed on to the customer. As they become more expensive, customers will start to wonder whether it is worth flying in business class or first class,” reinforces Nuno Gomes.
On Monday, eight countries, with the support of the European Commission (France, Spain, Barbados, Kenya, Benin, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Antigua and Barbuda), reached an agreement, within the framework of the United Nations (UN) conference, which took place in Seville (Spain), which provides for a tax on private jets and first class tickets.
