Brazil emitted a total of 2.3 billion tons of greenhouse gases that year. Of this amount, 46% came from the land-use change sector—which primarily includes the cutting and burning of forests. This means that no other economic activity in the country—not transportation, not industry, not agriculture—contributes as much to global warming as it does to environmental devastation.
