India responded “effectively” to Pakistan operation, military says

India says it has “responded effectively” to Pakistan’s military operation on Saturday morning.

Pakistan “targeted civilian areas and military infrastructure” including medical and educational buildings in Indian-administered Kashmir, Wing Commander Vyomika Singh alleged during a press conference in New Delhi along with other senior officials.

The Pakistani military “has also resorted to aerial intrusions using drones and heavy-caliber weapons fire ” along the disputed border in Kashmir, Singh said.

She added that Pakistan used a high-speed missile to target an air base in Punjab state, within India's undisputed borders.

The Indian army “responded effectively”, causing “extensive damage” to Pakistani army infrastructure. Singh said the Indian side suffered “limited damage”.

The Pakistani military “was observed moving its troops into forward areas, indicating an offensive intent for further escalation ,” the Indian commander said.

“The Indian armed forces remain at a high state of operational readiness , and all hostile actions have been effectively countered and responded to proportionately,” he added.

Pakistan did not respond to the comments made during the press conference.

Pakistan earlier said it had launched a retaliatory operation after India launched strikes on the country and Pakistan-administered Kashmir, targeting what it called “terrorist infrastructure”.

No questions were answered during the press conference.
