Hotel do Mel will be the first in Góis and is expected to open later this year

The new social bodies of the Cooperativa Social e Agroflorestal de Vila Nova do Ceira, CRL assume as a priority for the mandate the inauguration of the Hotel do Mel , which is being built in the center of Vila Nova do Ceira and is scheduled to open this year.
This is an “ambitious project that promises to be a turning point for the municipality of Góis, a region with a strong vocation for tourism”, says Aida Baeta, unanimously elected as the President of the Board of Directors of the Vila Nova do Ceira Social and Agroforestry Cooperative. “Góis is a municipality focused on tourism, so the Cooperative is simply positioning itself in the direction that our municipality should take”, said the person in charge, convinced that the Hotel do Mel “is a winning project”.

According to the new president, the first woman in the position, "no company survives without restructuring" and the investment in tourism appears "as a complement to the difficulties faced by the agricultural purchasing and sales sections" because, she added, "these are areas that are experiencing some difficulties.
“These are areas of deficit in the Cooperative, they are a service that is provided to our members, but which has never generated money”, he explained.
The infrastructure at stake is budgeted at 2.25 million euros, of which, as António Dias explained, “only 200 thousand euros were non-refundable”, which “for a project of this size, 200 thousand euros is practically zero”. Initially, the construction of fifteen rooms was planned, but this was later increased to five, which required a financial change of around 500 thousand euros. Therefore, the vice-president of the Board of Directors revealed, “we had to go to the bank to increase our debt, but always with a rigorous approach to financial management, avoiding an excessive increase in debt”, justified the vice-president, guaranteeing that the institution’s objective is to “spend as little as possible”. “The financial sustainability of the project depends on careful management, without compromising the stability of the Cooperative”, he stated.
Hotel unit will have 20 rooms
The Hotel do Mel will be the first hotel to open in the municipality of Góis. Thinking about its operation, António Dias admits to having “some concern” about the management of human resources, who must be qualified to perform their duties with quality, and so this management could be outsourced to specialized companies or be the responsibility of a Cooperative. What is certain, he assured, is that “the restaurant will be a concession”.
To reduce operating costs, Hotel do Mel will have a photovoltaic plant to produce electricity, as well as a multipurpose auditorium.
