The state of Bahia has recorded its first suspected death from methanol poisoning in the municipality of Feira de Santana. The information was confirmed this Friday, the 3rd, by the Bahia State Health Department and the Feira de Santana Municipal Health Department.
This is a patient, a 56-year-old man, who was admitted to the Queimadinha UPA and died in the early hours of this Friday.
“Biological samples will be collected and sent for laboratory analysis, with results expected within seven days, in order to confirm or rule out the hypothesis of poisoning,” said the state secretariat.
Sesab instructed public and private health units to be alert to cases of methanol poisoning, reporting them immediately to allow for rapid investigations and the adoption of necessary measures.
The state secretariat also said that the case will be monitored by state and municipal surveillance teams, in conjunction with the State Public Security Secretariat, reinforcing the integration of monitoring and investigation actions.
