Aljezur: Baiona siphon failure about to be resolved

"Throughout the entire process, we closely monitored the construction work, mindful of the impact it would have on farmers in the municipality of Aljezur. It was precisely because we were present and attentive, and faced with reports of irregularities and growing concerns on the ground, that we acted decisively," José Gonçalves emphasized.
In order to safeguard access to water for local agricultural agents—especially during a critical period like summer, which is essential for agricultural production—the municipality of Aljezur did not stand still, actively lobbying for an urgent meeting to be called to ensure that no further constraints would arise that would jeopardize the municipality's agricultural activity.
During the meeting, AB Mira took responsibility for a temporary malfunction in the central system, which caused temporary interruptions in water distribution. According to the association, the situation was primarily due to low water levels in the canal, necessitating the use of water pumping to replenish the situation, which was considered sporadic.
The system is currently undergoing recovery and is expected to be fully operational very soon. The water supply has already been stabilized and its capacity to meet the needs of local farmers for the current agricultural season has been confirmed.
"We reiterate our commitment to farmers and the sustainability of the agricultural sector in Aljezur, maintaining a vigilant and intervening stance whenever necessary," the mayor added.
After a technical visit to the work, the working meeting, which took place at the premises of the Odeceixe Parish Council, was attended by the Mayor, José Gonçalves, councilors António Carvalho (PS) and Manuel Marreiros (Renascer), the Mira Irrigation Association, the presidents of the Parish Councils of Odeceixe, Rogil and Aljezur and the local associations AHSA - Association of Horticulturists, Fruit Growers and Florists of the Municipalities of Odemira and Aljezur, APBDA - Association of Sweet Potato Producers of Aljezur and AAPPAM - Association of Farmers and Owners of the Mira Agricultural Perimeter.
This meeting was "extremely important for everyone who lives and works" in this area. The City Council facilitated the meeting with all the associations involved and reaffirms its commitment to monitoring this project and ensuring the water supply.
