Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that a Satellite Operations Center would be established in Poland "as soon as possible." He added that the decision was made on Sunday following a panel discussion during the second day of the Civic Coalition convention.
At Saturday's convention in Warsaw, the Civic Platform, Modern, and Polish Initiative officially announced their merger into a single party under the name Civic Coalition. The national convention continues on Sunday, with Civic Coalition politicians and experts at the Copernicus Science Centre (CSC) discussing challenges such as security, economic competitiveness, and nuclear energy under the banner of "Democracy of Equal Opportunities."
During the afternoon press conference, Prime Minister Tusk announced that Sunday's meeting on one of the panels had a "very practical dimension."
"We're talking about the future, but not with our heads in the clouds, but rather by looking boldly at the sky and even making decisions," he said. He added that during the meeting about Poland's presence in space and the opportunities it offers, they also discussed "one of the most important needs, one that can tie together many of the successes (of the meeting participants - PAP) and what they have achieved so far, and what is essential from the perspective of Poland's broadly understood security, namely the Satellite Operations Center."
"We have brilliant people. Poland is becoming a regional leader. We also have the resources at our disposal to establish a Satellite Operations Center, coordinating activities and providing synergies for all those who (...) know how to utilize our satellite capabilities, in Poland as soon as possible," said the Prime Minister.
He added that thanks to the presence of Minister of Finance and Economy Andrzej Domański, the decision "did not require many hours of deliberation, and yes, it was made today." A Satellite Operations Center will be established in Poland, he declared. (PAP)
