POLSA has started recruiting radio amateurs who will be able to establish radio contact with Polish astronaut Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski during the IGNIS mission. First in line will be applications from young people and youth radio amateur clubs - the agency announced.
The launch of the Ax-4 mission with the Pole Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski to the International Space Station (ISS) will take place on May 29. The astronauts will conduct research related to, among others, the impact of microgravity on the human body, Earth observation and fuels of the future.
As part of the Polish IGNIS mission, 13 experiments will be conducted in orbit, including medicine, biology, biotechnology and engineering sciences. As the Polish Space Agency (POLSA) recalled in a press release, several periods have also been planned as part of the IGNIS mission during which the Polish astronaut will make calls to local shortwave radio operators. Uznański-Wiśniewski joined the shortwave radio community in May last year, thus gaining the authorization to make radio communications, also during his stay in space.
Now POLSA is waiting for applications from shortwave radio operators or members of the radio amateur club who want to establish contact with Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski who is on the ISS. Interested parties should fill out the form on the agency's website.
"From all the applications, we will select people who will be placed on the list of radio amateurs with whom the astronaut will be able to make a so-called QSO, or rather SKED, or arranged contact. After a successful contact, the amateurs will receive commemorative QSL cards. First, applications from young people and youth radio amateur clubs will be selected. Then, the date of sending the application will be decided," the press release stated.
It was noted that due to the dynamics and specificity of space missions, there is no certainty that the actions will be carried out. "In such a case, we ask for your understanding," we read.
POLSA will inform about the recruitment results individually by e-mail. (PAP)
