New green oasis in Poland opens. It has unique forests and traces of a railway
This is good news for residents of the Świętokrzyskie province and all nature lovers. Since May 27, the Bliżyńskie Natural Forests have been a new nature reserve. A significant part of it is occupied by coniferous habitats with a predominance of upland fir forest. It is considered endemic to the uplands of southeastern Poland.
A new nature reserve in PolandThe new reserve is located within the Natura 2000 area of Lasy Suchedniowskie, in the Bliżyn and Suchedniów communes. It will be open to visitors and mushroom pickers. Guests can walk among trees of various ages, such as fir, beech, oak, Polish larch, silver birch and black alder. The reserve is distinguished by its rich spatial structure and large amounts of dead wood - a key element of natural ecosystems.
It is also inhabited by numerous species of amphibians, birds and mammals, such as the great crested newt, the white-backed woodpecker Dendrocopos leucotos, the Ural owl Strix uralensis, the pygmy owl Glaucidium passerinum and the wolf Canis lupus, which forms a family group there.
Traces of the narrow-gauge railwayThe Ministry of Climate pointed out that a significant part of the reserve is a secondary succession area, created on the former mining areas from the times of the Old Polish Industrial Region. Traces of former narrow-gauge railway tracks operating at the end of the 19th century and in the first half of the 20th century can be seen there. This increases the landscape and cultural values of the reserve.
Nature reserves in Poland include areas preserved in their natural or little-changed state, ecosystems, refuges and natural habitats, as well as plant habitats, animal habitats and fungi habitats and inanimate nature formations and components that are distinguished by special natural, scientific, cultural or landscape values.
