Netflix is making a film about a Polish legend from the communist era. It's going to be a hit!

Netflix announced that work has begun on a film biography of Polish rock icon Jan Borysewicz. His story is set in the 1980s and 1990s. Mikołaj Bukrewicz, making his screen debut, will play the lead singer of Lady Pank. Netflix has released the first photos of the actor in makeup.
The new Netflix production is meant to be a story about rebellion, passion and the price one can pay for artistic freedom.
"I'm very happy that Lady Pank's story and my journey will appear on screen. I hope this film will show that in those days, music was more than just playing—it was a form of our freedom," said Jan Borysewicz, quoted in the press release.
The plot begins with an event from 1983. Borysewicz takes the stage despite a police ban to censor his work. Lady Punk's concert is interrupted, and the musicians are arrested. The action flashes back in time to show how it all began.
As Łukasz Kłuskiewicz, Netflix's programming director for Central and Eastern Europe, says:
Mikołaj Bukrewicz will play Jan Borysewicz"Jan Borysewicz is a figure of immense importance to Polish culture – a rock icon whose work and charisma shaped the musical consciousness of generations. This film will be a passionate story, aimed squarely at fans, but also an incredibly compelling adaptation of the incredible story of exceptional people. The project involves both renowned filmmakers with whom we have previously collaborated, as well as talented debutants – and I am convinced that this will create a fresh, engaging cinematic narrative."
In the film, Jan Borysewicz will be portrayed by Mikołaj Bukrewicz. He is a passionate guitarist, writes his own music and lyrics, and sings. The other members of the band Lady Pank will be Hubert Miłkowski, Krzysztof Oleksyn, Mikołaj Matczak, and Marcel Barra. Netflix published a photo in which they are disguised as Lady Pank musicians.
The film will be directed by Polish-Swedish director Kristoffer Rus ("Too Big for Fairy Tales," "Sasha's Elements: Fire"). Wiktor Piątkowski ("Murderwomen," "Sortownia") and Joanna Kozłowska ("Sorting," "Vote of No Trust") wrote the script. The film is produced by Paprika Studios.
It has not yet been revealed when the film will be released.
