The Satellite Operations Center will be a new institution, government spokesman Adam Szłapka announced on Sunday. He emphasized that Poland has the potential to utilize new technologies and accelerate the development of the space industry.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced on Sunday that a Satellite Operations Centre will be established in Poland, which will respond to the needs of the space sector, but also of the country's security.
"This will be a new institution tasked with coordinating all work related to satellite issues," Szłapka told Polsat News. "The point is to simply improve the flow of information, better coordination, and synergy of everything Poland is doing in new technologies," he added. A government spokesman said the Polish Space Agency (POLSA), the government, and the Ministry of Technology and Development would work on this.
He noted that Poland has the potential to leverage new technologies and the space industry for faster development. He added that issues related to new technologies, including space, can be a lever for the entire economy.
The government spokesman said that on Sunday the prime minister spoke with, among others, the head of the Polish Space Agency (POLSA), Marta Wachowicz, and cosmonaut Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski.
On Sunday, politicians and invited experts discussed challenges in the areas of security, economic competitiveness, and nuclear energy at the Copernicus Science Centre in Warsaw.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the debates have a practical dimension. He cited the decision to establish a Satellite Operations Center in Poland as an example. He specified that the decision was made following a discussion at one of Sunday's panels devoted to the development of the space sector.
According to Civic Coalition politicians, Sunday's debates were a prelude to discussions about the Civic Coalition's program before the 2027 parliamentary elections. At Saturday's convention in Warsaw, Civic Platform, Modern, and Polish Initiative announced their merger into one party under the name Civic Coalition. (PAP)
