The competition is played in a knockout format. The quarterfinals were to determine the top four teams in the tournament, and at this stage, a surprising result occurred – Slovenia eliminated the defending champions, France, with a 3-1 victory. The remaining matches were uneventful, with higher-ranked teams prevailing. Italy defeated Cuba (3-1), Brazil defeated China (3-1), and Poland defeated Japan (3-0).
The quarterfinals were played on Wednesday and Thursday. Friday was a rest day, with the semifinals scheduled for Saturday. The 2025 Volleyball Nations League medal matches will take place on Sunday.
The Volleyball Nations League was first held in 2018, replacing the World League. Previous editions have been won by Russia (2018, 2019), Brazil (2021), France (2022, 2024), and Poland (2023).
