The Norwegian ski jumper's brazen words. Right after a major cheating incident.
The start of the summer ski jumping season is not without controversy. The International Ski Federation (FIS) initiated stringent inspections following a scandal in which Norwegians were found to have deliberately sewn and tampered with their suits. Despite this, the main athletes involved—Johann Andre Forfang and Marius Lindvik—were allowed to compete.
The FIS investigation is still ongoing, and the athletes maintain they had no idea what they were jumping in. "I hope nothing more happens. I feel like we've already been punished," Lindvik told tv2.no. The Norwegians kicked off the Courchevel Summer Grand Prix with a victory for Lindvik. After the competition, he didn't hesitate to hit back at fans from other countries.
Marius Lindvik hit back at his rivals. Here's what he said"I don't think many people were happy that I won today. That's why it tastes so damn good. It was very difficult to start again. Motivation was low, but I knew what had to be done. It was good to know that we could still be at the top, even if it was just the Summer Grand Prix. The regulations are much stricter now. They are fierce, they measure every millimeter. It's difficult, both for us and for other countries," said Marius Lindvik.
"Damn. I was better than him all summer. It's absolutely amazing. The fact that he's performing like this today makes you sit back and admire him. I'm impressed. It's a great feeling. Five months of bottled-up emotions just exploded," added Johann Andre Forfang, who finished 13th.
In the first competition of the Summer Grand Prix, Dawid Kubacki performed best among the Poles, finishing ninth. Piotr Żyła and Aleksander Zniszczoł also scored points. Kamil Stoch was eliminated in the first round, and defending LGP champion Paweł Wąsek didn't even make it through qualifying.
