Poll ahead of the Men's Volleyball World Championships. Dark horse? Experts almost agree.

Poll ahead of the Men's Volleyball World Championships. Dark horse? Experts almost agree.

We asked our experts three questions.

  1. Who will be the Poles' main rival in the fight for the world championship title and who will stand on the podium?
  2. Which Pole will be the best player in the team and which will be the discovery of the tournament?
  3. Which team will be the dark horse of the World Cup?
Maciej Jarosz

1. Italy and Brazil. These teams have been performing very well lately. I don't see France among them, as I think they're currently going through a crisis. As for the top three teams at this year's World Cup, I'd go with Poland, Brazil, and Italy.

2. In my opinion, the tournament's discovery could be our debutant, Maksymilian Granieczny. I think he'll get his chance in the Philippines. I've already watched him in the league; he has incredible talent and can predict what's going to happen on the court. As for the best player, I'd like it to be Kevin Sasak. I think we should bet on him, because he's the future of the Polish national team as a striker. I really like this player, and he could form a fantastic pairing with Bartek Kurek.

3. Argentina. This is a team that, with the exception of Luciano De Cecco, doesn't feature any major stars, but they blend well together. This was evident during the Wagner Memorial. I don't believe in Germans or Slovenians, and I don't think the time has come for Cubans yet.

Marcin Możdżonek

1. The Poles have enormous potential for gold, and I expect them to finish first. Behind them, I see Brazil and Italy. Who will be the toughest opponent for the Polish national team? It will be themselves. Our team, as always, is considered the favorite; it has undergone a significant overhaul this season, but on the other hand, it's a hell of a team, which is especially evident among the new players. I hope everyone can handle the pressure mentally. The most important thing is that everyone stays healthy.

2. There will be one player, although on the other hand, he's hardly a revelation. I'm referring to Kewin Sasak, who now has a huge opportunity to prove that his performances, form, and results so far are no fluke. This will be a serious test of his skills, and I secretly hope he shows his full potential and how strong a player he can be, not just in the context of a single season. I don't know if Bartek Kurek will be in the starting six, but I believe Kewin will play a key role at this championship.

3. Germany. In recent years, they've shown they have potential, can play well, and can pull off a comeback. They've also made medal history at the World Championships, though a long time has passed since 2014. I don't know if they have the potential to win a medal, but I think they can shake things up again.

1. France. Their young players have made significant progress. Besides, it's always difficult for Poland to play against the Tricolores, as they're a highly technical team. Poland will be in first place, Brazil in second, and Slovenia in third. Why Slovenia? Because the other favorites are in a transition phase and aren't yet prepared for such a big game. Slovenia has some of the leaders in their squad and always shows a fighting spirit.

2. I'd like Tomasz Fornal to be the best player. In my opinion, he's well-prepared for the game. This season, he hasn't fully demonstrated his potential, but he's experienced enough to focus on the most important moments of the season. I think he'll show much more of what he's capable of at the World Cup. The tournament's revelation? I hope it's one of this year's debutants. I'd lean towards Kuba Nowak, as he clearly has the character to play, although he still needs experience. His personality, however, reminds me of Tomasz Wójtowicz. Despite his young age, he has a cool outlook on the pitch.

3. Argentina. I like technical teams, and this one shows a variety of moves. The Argentines may be a bit weaker in attack, but outside of our team, I'll admit they're my biggest supporter.

Waldemar the Magnificent

1. If Andrea Giani gets his team back together, our main rivals will be France. Besides them, Italy, Japan, which has an interesting lineup, and Brazil. It's sure to be interesting. I see the World Cup podium in this order: Poland, Brazil, and Italy.

2. For the past few years, Tomasz Fornal has been my best player because he's the most versatile and performs very well in every aspect. Jakub Kochanowski might be the second standout volleyball player on our team, but I'm still betting on Tomek. As for the World Cup winner, I'd like Kewin Sasak to be the one who established himself as the starting attacker after the Nations League. I don't know if Bartek Kurek will be physically fit enough for the two-week tournament, so there might be some rotation in that position.

3. Germany. I'm backing them because of my fondness for their coach, Michał Winiarski. Seriously, they've also made a few changes, but then again, it all depends on Georg Grozer's fitness for the tournament.

Andrea Anastasi

1. Italy is one of the candidates, and I think they, along with Poland, can achieve very good results. I also think Brazil always has that "something" more than other countries. Japan could also put in a very good performance. However, on paper, I think Poland is the strongest, so I'm betting on them, Brazil in second place, and Italy in third.

2. I think Wilfredo Leon could be that key player. When I was watching Poland prepare for the World Cup, I noticed he was in top form. And who could be the tournament's breakthrough? I think Marcin Komenda, because the playmaker needs to play well for the team to reach the desired level.

3. Germany could be the team, as they're a very strong team. They've made a few changes to their roster and have some very interesting players. Among them is Georg Grozer, who's always ready to lend a helping hand. Besides that, I think Germany is a very balanced team. Argentina and the USA could also be considered, but it's important to remember that the latter is currently undergoing a generational change.

Ireneusz Kłos

1. Italy. We've been facing them in various tournaments for several years now, recently even in the finals. The Brazilians, who have rebuilt their squad, have finally started playing better. The French will also be a force to be reckoned with, and in my opinion, the Americans haven't said their last word either. This despite their significantly weaker squad than in recent years. My top three for the World Cup? Poland, Brazil, and Italy.

2. I think Kewin Sasak will be a revelation, as he's made incredible progress recently. His performances at the end of last season in the PlusLiga and so far in the national team left me in awe. I'd say the best player is Tomek Fornal, who is the most versatile volleyball player. He plays fantastically in the back row and has a fantastic single block. He's a complete volleyball player.

3. Germany. They're unpredictable and have proven time and again that they play their best matches against the favorites. This was demonstrated by the quarterfinals of the last Olympics against France, where they narrowly lost. I think the Argentines found their form too early, as evidenced by their fantastic performance in the Wagner Memorial. In my opinion, they should be showing this form now, not in Krakow.
