Kajetan Kajetanowicz is moving to a new car. He's preparing something special
In February he went to Finland, where he tested his new car. After several years of racing in a Skoda Fabia RS Rally2, "Kajto" decided to change and this season his weapon will be the Toyota GR Yaris Rally2. The GR Yaris rally uses different technical solutions than its Czech rival, so in order to fully use the considerable potential of the new car, you have to get to know them well.
— We are starting another season in the World Rally Championship, which will be full of challenges and novelties. We are switching to a new car, which will be prepared for the starts by the domestic team Rallylab Technology. I believe that a strong Polish team will stand up to the strong field that gathers every year in the WRC2 Challenger. The new car is a big change, but above all a chance for development, and I put this first — said the Orlen Team driver.
Winter testing in Finland allowed the new car to be explored. The test session took place on snowy roads near Jyvaskyla, where the Rally Finland is held.
The second series of tests took place in Germany near the city of Boxberg, where the Lausitz Rallye is held. Kajetanowicz checked how the Yaris GR behaves on a gravel surface.
— I had the opportunity to test our new rally weapon, the Toyota GR Yaris Rally2, in difficult conditions. It performs very well in them, it is very forgiving in ruts, although I tried to be gentle. There is a lot of traction and, above all, a lot of driving pleasure. However, the number of cylinders in the engine, only three, does not make it easier to sense the moment of changing gear. I also have to watch the indicators - when the red lights up, that's when I change gear. Basically, all drivers who get into this car struggle with this, so it's nothing strange. You have to feel it and get used to it. I am glad that we will have the opportunity to test this car in combat conditions during the next Safari Rally — added Kajetanowicz after testing the new car.
Kajetanowicz will start in seven rounds of WRC2 in the 2025 season. The first Safari Rally will be held on March 20-23. The organizers have prepared 21 special stages with a total length of almost 385 km.
Kajetan Kajetanowicz and his plansApart from the aforementioned Safari, Kajetanowicz and his co-driver Maciej Szczepaniak will take part in six more selected rallies later this year, as according to the regulations, when competing in the WRC2 Challenger, one can start in a total of seven events.
— Where will our next starts be? It is not known yet today. The program will be arranged depending on the situation in the general classification. One thing is certain today, the competition will be very strong — emphasized "Kajto".
The Safari is back on the World Championship calendar in 2021. The stages are shorter than they used to be, but the difficulty is still one of the highest of the season.
There are 39 teams on the entry list this year. Ten of them will be driving Rally1 cars, including four Rally1 Yarises. They will be driven by Briton Elfyn Evans, Finn Kalle Rovanpera, Japanese Takamoto Katsuta and Finn Sami Pajari.
The Hyundai team included world champion Belgian Thierry Neuville, Estonian Ott Tanak and Frenchman Adrien Fourmaux.
Sixteen crews will compete in the WRC2. Among them, two Polish teams, Kajetanowicz and Daniel Chwist with co-driver Kamil Heller, in the Skoda Fabia RS Rally2.
