The first match of the new season took place on Wednesday in one of the four groups of the West Pomeranian football District Class, and the competition will start in full swing during the upcoming weekend, with six Szczecin clubs taking part in the competition: Stal, Arkonia, Hutnik, Kasta Majowe, FASE (all in Group 2) and Jeziorak Załom (Group 1).

Group 1 will feature Kotwica Kołobrzeg, whose predecessor played in the first division last season but was relegated. The club, led by president Adam Dzik, was denied a license to play in the second division and is currently in liquidation. A continuation of Kołobrzeg's football tradition is the formation of a new club, MKS Kotwica Kołobrzeg, which is starting to compete in the regional league.

"We're starting the season in good spirits and with optimism, but only after the first round will we be able to say what we're capable of," Sebastian Staszczak, president of the new Kotwica, told us. "We have several players who have played in the second and even first leagues, including some from Pogoń Szczecin, so let me mention:

Sebastian Murawski, Tomasz Rydzak, captain Jakub Poznański, Radosław Strzelecki, Cezary Szybka, and Mikołaj Duwe. We also acquired young Mateusz Ginter from Widzew Łódź, who trained at FASE Szczecin, as well as two promising Ukrainians: Artem Serbljuk, recently trialed at Legia Warsaw, and Maksym Iwańczuk from the German 2nd Bundesliga. We also have a whole group of talented academy players, led by Konrad Strojek. The Kotwica Kołobrzeg Football Academy also plays in our group, but it's a completely different club, not affiliated with us organizationally, so the historic first Kotwica Kołobrzeg derby will take place soon.

Vineta Wolin, a recent third-division relegation team, was also supposed to play in Group I, but the club withdrew and requested to be relegated to the A Class, which the West Pomeranian Football Association agreed to. This move only took place this week, so the decision was made to limit Group I to 15 teams.

Last season, there were outrageous scenes during the Korona Stuchowo vs. Sarmata Dobra match on April 12th, when masked individuals ran onto the pitch and assaulted fans and players. Due to this brawl, the match was abandoned in the 37th minute with the score tied 1-1. The match was completed from the 37th minute on the second set of fixtures on June 4th, ending 1-1. The attackers were reportedly supporters of... Dęb Dębno. Police launched an investigation, and according to Katarzyna Jasion, press officer for the District Police Commander in Kamień Pomorski, one of the suspects was detained, but released after questioning. Several other individuals were also questioned, and the case is currently being investigated by the District Prosecutor's Office in Kamień Pomorski. ©℗ (mij)
