A decade has passed since Bohdan Tomaszowski's death. Remembering the legendary commentator

February 27, 2025 marks the 10th anniversary of the death of Bohdan Tomaszewski, an outstanding sports journalist. This day is a good opportunity to remember the legendary commentator.
Bohdan Tomaszewski died a decade ago at the age of 94. This is how Krzysztof Rawa remembered him.
- Mr. Bohdan - that's what we called him in my editorial office. He was a figure who would be suitable as a monument to sports journalism. For some it may sound pompous, but I will remember Mr. Bohdan as a man who gave us a lot of himself, although he sometimes seemed inaccessible. Above all, he loved sports and their beauty. He saw beauty in sports and tried to convey it to all of us in the most beautiful way possible. Anyone who was able to "get infected" with this view of sports, remained under the spell of Mr. Bohdan Tomaszewski for the rest of their life. I am one of those people - explained the sports journalist.

In turn, Tomasz Tomaszewski, Bohdan's son and currently a tennis commentator for Polsat Sport, recalled an important fact from his father's life. He recalled that for some time he did not commentate on sports events.
- In 1981, when martial law broke out, he withdrew. He was 60 years old, and as a journalist and commentator he was still at his best. He didn't work for 20 years. He returned to work at the age of 80. It's incredible. And he worked at full speed for another 13 years. He commentated on the Wimbledon finals, there was no older commentator in the world who would comment on a major event at that age - he emphasized.
What was the genesis of the Tomaszewski phenomenon? According to his son, it was his enormous erudition.
- Before the war, his idol was Wojciech Trojanowski. He read a lot. He was interested in history and literature. He always emphasized vocabulary and its richness. He gave this advice to younger journalists - read as much as possible - he explained.
In turn, Krzysztof Wanio, who, together with Tomaszewski, commentated on tennis matches on Polsat Sport, appreciated the way he narrated the matches.
- I wondered for a long time what his phenomenon was. We all know his voice. Charismatic, impeccable Polish, but what was the catch? I realized that it was simple. We tend to think that if the temperature in the stadium is 100 degrees, we make it 140, 150, 200. And then he would take a step back. On the other hand, he was able to raise the temperature in an average show. This was his secret - he said.
