Dezeen Award organizers have announced the 262 projects that made it onto the longlist for this year's competition. Among them was the University of Warsaw's Student Dormitory No. 7, designed by Projekt Praga studio.

For eight years now, Dezeen , one of the most popular architecture and design portals in the world, has been handing out awards to the creators of the best projects.

The judges focus on three key criteria: beauty , innovation , and utility . Designers must pay attention to detail and the appropriate use of materials, present fresh approaches and new ideas, and ensure that their designs are socially and environmentally responsible.

The Dezeen Awards have become one of the world's most prestigious accolades for architects and designers. The organizers have just announced the projects that made it to the longlist . This year, from over 4,300 entries from 89 countries, 262 projects were selected for the awards. Among them... a Polish academic building . Yes, you read that correctly!

University of Warsaw academic recognized in an international competition

According to the description on the Dezeen Awards website, the Student Dormitory No. 7 at the University of Warsaw, designed by Projekt Praga, sets a new standard for public student housing in Poland . The building offers 382 students a modern, inclusive, and community-oriented space.

"This is an attractive, tailor-made living and working environment that meets the needs of today's students. Thanks to the thoughtful organization of space, it fosters bonds within the academic community," writes the Projekt Praga team.

The building's windmill-inspired layout promotes privacy. Furthermore, thanks to the interior atrium and well-designed common areas, more sociable students will surely find space to make new friends .

When it comes to the interior, the focus is on simplicity and a cozy atmosphere .

Project Prague: Student residence can be eco-friendly

Dezeen experts add that the Polish studio's design is fully accessible and eco-friendly . The architects used features such as solar panels , heat recovery systems , and greenery.

"This student residence highlights how public architecture can be thoughtful, affordable and beautifully designed," we read on the Dezeen Awards website.

The shortlist announcement is scheduled for next month. We're keeping our fingers crossed for the Polish student residence. What I wouldn't give to trade my Katowice dorm from years ago for such luxury...
