At least 40 people have died from cholera in the war-torn region of western Darfur over the past week, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) said.
"In addition to the war, Sudanese are currently struggling with the worst cholera epidemic in their country in many years," MSF stressed.
In the Darfur region alone, MSF specialists helped more than 2,300 patients last week and recorded 40 deaths from cholera.
Since July last year, around 100,000 cases of cholera have been recorded in Sudan, the World Health Organization (WHO) noted , emphasizing that the disease is spreading "in all provinces of Sudan."
According to the UN, Sudan is facing "the world's worst humanitarian crisis," caused by more than two years of civil war that has already killed tens of thousands of people and displaced millions. The fighting has made it nearly impossible to deliver humanitarian aid, and the rainy season in August could worsen the situation.
