The heads of the EU Medicines Agencies discussed the future of EU pharmaceutical regulations in Warsaw

As part of the Polish presidency of the Council of the European Union, a meeting of the heads of the medicines agencies of the European Union and the European Economic Area took place. The issues discussed included the ongoing negotiations on the Critical Medicines Act and the review of the pharmaceutical package.
Pharmaceutical law reform"During today's meeting of the Heads of the Medicines Agencies of the European Union and the European Economic Area, Paulina Sosin-Ziarkiewicz, Deputy Director of the Department of Medicines Policy and Pharmaceuticals at the Ministry of Health, presented the progress of work on the reform of EU pharmaceutical law and the draft of the Critical Medicines Act," we read on the Ministry of Health's account on the X portal.
Let us recall that this reform is to accelerate the approval of innovative drugs for circulation on the European market and increase their availability throughout the EU. One of the goals is also to increase the competitiveness of the European pharmaceutical market.
- As the Polish presidency, we have closed most of the negotiation areas and we hope that by the end of our term we will be able to work out a compromise in order to maintain the predictability and stability of the medicines market in the entire European Union - emphasized Deputy Minister Katarzyna Kacperczyk.
Today's meeting also saw discussions on the Critical Medicines Act, a regulation that aims to enable the creation of European strategic autonomy in the pharmaceutical sector.
- The discussion focuses on the issues of common supply mechanisms, security of supply and new procurement rules. We count on the involvement of experts - without your support, the implementation of this project will not be possible. - indicated Deputy Minister Katarzyna Kacperczyk.
